CLEVELAND, Feb. 27, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- On February 5, 2019, 3M, a leading tape manufacturing company, received a Golden Mousetrap Award in the Materials and Assembly category for its 4077 Elastic Blend Nonwoven Extended Wear Medical Tape (3M 4077).
The Golden Mousetrap Awards, presented by UBM, recognizes innovation in product design. The 4077 medical tape is designed to be breathable, conformable, and water resistant, with a wear time of up to 14 days. According to Freedonia analyst Chad Henry, "The aging US population and increased demand for medical care make medical specialty tapes one of the fastest growing markets for pressure sensitive tapes in the US."
Henry also notes that the tape's omni-directional stretch meets a growing need. "For patients with delicate skin, such as the elderly and children in particular, medical tape needs to provide secure adhesion while removing gently and completely."
Furthermore, Henry points out the significance of medical tapes being recognized for design innovation. "With the lightweighting of automobiles and electronics, including wearable devices, there is no shortage of tape innovation in manufacturing. For medical tape to be recognized with this award two years in a row, both by 3M, speaks to research and development spending strategies and what is ahead for the industry." The market for medical pressure sensitive tape in the US is expected to be worth over $750 million by 2022 out of an overall pressure sensitive tape market of over $9 billion.
