Detroit to Host Prestigious Travel Writers Group
DETROIT, Sept. 20, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau (DMCVB) will welcome 62 travel journalists and tourism representatives from across the Midwest this week to showcase Detroit's new development and signature tourism attractions.
The Midwest Travel Writers Association is holding their annual fall conference at the Greektown Casino Hotel, Wednesday, Sept. 21-Sunday, Sept. 25. The prestigious group is primarily made up of travel writers that are based in the Midwest but write for multiple publications across the country. Each year they select a new destination for both their spring and fall conferences. The DMCVB bid to host the fall conference this year.
"We are excited to have the opportunity to show this productive group of writers the progress of new development in the Metro Detroit area, as well as the tourism gems that have drawn millions of tourists to our destination," said Renee Monforton, director of communications for the DMCVB. "Detroit is truly on the comeback and now is the perfect time to showcase it to this group who are very interested about the significant change taking place here."
In addition to meetings and professional development sessions, the group will tour a number of revitalized neighborhoods downtown and attractions both in the suburbs and downtown. Some of the tours include: Art of the D, the Magic of Motown, Beyond Downtown: Historic and on the Rise, Eastern Market Walking Tour and The Henry Ford.
Guests will also attend an evening event on the Infinity Yacht to showcase Detroit's changing riverfront and proximity to Canada; a Detroit Tigers game; and a reception at the new Polk Penguin Conservation Center at the Detroit Zoo. One evening the group will split up and dine at several new area restaurants.
