Detroit Medical Center Earns a Spot on 2010 InformationWeek 500 List of Top Technology Innovators Across America
DETROIT, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Detroit Medical Center (DMC), announced today that it was named to this year's InformationWeek 500, an annual listing of the nation's most innovative users of business technology. The hospital system was recognized for its implementation of an electronic surgical scheduling tool that interfaces with its inventory and accounting systems resulting in cost savings, improved workflow and patient safety.
"The DMC is a strong proponent of using technology to improve patient care and drive business results; working closely with our information technology partner, CareTech Solutions, we are able to do just that," said Mike LeRoy, CIO, Detroit Medical Center. "The benefits of integrating SurgiNet ® into the DMC's accounting and inventory systems have been numerous; what is most notable is the dramatic reduction in surgery inventory. The DMC achieved a 64 percent reduction in inventory supplies, and the implementation enabled the five rights for medication bar-code scanning in the operating rooms."
"For 22 years, the InformationWeek 500 has honored the most innovative users of business technology," said InformationWeek Editor In Chief Rob Preston. "As we start to emerge from the worst recession in decades, the IT focus is now on driving growth—new sources of revenue, new relationships with customers, even new business models. This year's ranking placed special emphasis on those companies and business technology executives leading that charge."
