Detroit LISC to Hold 20th Anniversary Gala Celebration at Fox Theatre on May 3
DETROIT, May 2, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Detroit Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) will be celebrating its 20th anniversary with a gala event at the Fox Theatre (2211 Woodward Avenue) on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, beginning at 5:00 p.m.
The event will be attended by Michael Rubinger, President and CEO of LISC, Karla Henderson, Director of the City of Detroit's Planning and Development Department, State Representative Rashida Tlaib, city officials, and the heads of Detroit's community development organizations. WDET-Radio host Craig Fahle will be the event's emcee.
The event will feature a proclamation from the Mayor's Office, and remarks from Michael Rubinger, Nick Khouri, chair of the Detroit LISC Local Advisory Board and Tahirih Ziegler, Detroit LISC Executive Director. The 45-minute program begins at 6:15 p.m. and concludes with a video history of Detroit LISC.
Since 1990, Detroit LISC has worked with community development partners, investors, and the philanthropic community to revitalize Detroit neighborhoods following a comprehensive model for community development, the Building Sustainable Communities Initiative. This model focuses on five investment goals: rebuilding the physical environment, increasing family income, stimulating the local economy, improving access to education, and creating safe, healthy environments.
Detroit LISC has helped develop over 4000 units of housing and 1,000,000 square feet of commercial real estate.
