Detroit Free Press Names ProQuest a Top Workplace
Survey of information company's employees reveals it's a great place to work
ANN ARBOR, Mich., Nov. 15, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- ProQuest, an Ann Arbor-based information and information technology company, is one of the best large companies to work for, according to the Detroit Free Press. The Detroit daily newspaper partnered with Workplace Dynamics to identify the metro area's "Top Workplaces in 2010" – those that stand-out as ethical, caring employers with good leadership and development opportunities for staff.
"ProQuest has an ongoing commitment to create an environment that inspires employees through a positive work experience as well as a personal engagement in the success of the business," said Marty Kahn, ProQuest CEO. "It's gratifying to be recognized this way, but we get to so much more than just a warm feeling. The kind of employee feedback we receive via programs such as Top Workplaces provides unique insight into how we're doing and how we need to shape our programs in the future to ensure we attract and develop an industry-leading team."
During the summer, Workplace Dynamics surveyed 467 ProQuest employees, 84% of the workforce at the company's Ann Arbor headquarters. Employees were asked a series of questions designed to evaluate the company's direction, ability to execute its business plan, leadership, career development, work conditions, and pay and benefits. They were also asked to assign an overall score – from 0 to 99 – for the company. Responses were compared to businesses across the region to determine which firms qualified as a "Top Workplace."
ProQuest is best known for the creation of information tools and technologies that support research around the world in schools, libraries, universities and businesses. In September, the company was ranked by InformationWeek magazine among the top 20 U.S. firms for innovative use of business technology. The workers in its Ann Arbor headquarters represent a diverse mix of jobs, including content experts of all types—from editors to librarians—as well as technologists, marketers and sales professionals. ProQuest is a mainstay of the Ann Arbor business environment and its employees are known for their community involvement.
