Detroit Edison's CoolCurrents Program Helps Customers Lower Bills, Keep Their Cool
Customers can save money with CoolCurrents and other rate options
DETROIT, May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Detroit Edison has a suggestion for customers who want to bring down their energy bills this summer: enroll in the company's CoolCurrents program. CoolCurrents allows customers to take advantage of a lower summer rate that can save as much as 20 percent on the cooling portion of their energy bills.
"When you enroll in CoolCurrents, you allow Detroit Edison to adjust your central air service on very hot days when the demand for electricity is high. Your air conditioning will cycle on and off for 15 minutes every 30 minutes for no more than eight hours daily," said Trevor Lauer, DTE Energy vice president of retail marketing. "You probably won't even notice a difference – except on your electric bill."
In addition to CoolCurrents, Detroit Edison offers special discount rates to senior citizens and to customers who enroll in its Time of Day rate program.
Detroit Edison's Senior Citizen Rate can save eligible customers up to 33 percent on their energy bills. The program is available to customers 62 years old and up. It's recommended for those who use less than 720 kilowatt hours of electricity per month.
Customers enrolled in the company's Time of Day Rate can save as much as $470 a year. Participants are billed at a substantial discount during the off-peak hours of 7 p.m. to 11 a.m. This rate is recommended for customers who spend $172 a month or more on electricity.
More information on these and other Detroit Edison's rate options is available at dteenergy.com/specialrates. The site includes a link to an interactive Rate Selector tool to help customers determine which rates best suit their needs.
