Detroit Edison Seeks Wind Turbine Supplier

DETROIT, July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Detroit Edison today issued a Request for Prequalification to purchase wind turbine generation equipment to be installed at one or more wind farms the electric utility is planning to develop.

The wind farms will be located in Michigan with a total generating capacity ranging from 100 to 200 megawatts (MW). Detroit Edison is seeking companies that provide wind turbines capable of producing a minimum of 1.5 MW.

Qualified suppliers will be invited to submit a proposal during the next six to 12 months, but only companies that submit a response to the prequalification request will be considered. The deadline is Sept. 3.

Detroit Edison has focused its wind farm development interest primarily in Huron County. To meet the state's 10 percent renewable energy standard, Detroit Edison will need about 1,200 MW of renewable energy, of which half can be owned by the electric utility. Detroit Edison also is reviewing other opportunities including power purchase agreements and joint development projects related to renewable energy generation.
