Exclusive Resorts and Leica Akademie Unveil Two 'Shoot Like Slim' Photography Getaways Inspired by the Photo Icon
DENVER, Feb. 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Exclusive Resorts®, a collection of more than 400 luxury residences and global experiences, announced today its newest Destinations In Focus photography weekends inspired by Slim Aarons' celebrated photos from the 1940s, 50s, 60s and 70s chronicling the good life – including the iconic image "Poolside Gossip" celebrating its 45th anniversary this year. Participants will enjoy privileged access to more than $100,000 worth of Leica Camera equipment in addition to private guidance from Mary Aarons, daughter of Slim Aarons, who will share her most memorable moments from the time she spent traveling with the photo icon.
Developed for experienced and novice photographers alike, the four-day photography workshops in Las Vegas and Los Angeles will teach participants how to replicate Slim's candid style capturing "attractive people, doing attractive things, in attractive places." In addition to the benefits of small class sizes and real world shooting situations, each participant will have access to experienced Leica Akademie instructors, as well as guest photographer, Mary Aarons, who will provide coaching and inspiration through the sharing of her images, techniques, and insights.
"Slim Aarons was a master at capturing and collecting moments while his subjects were at play or on vacation in spectacular homes around the world—much like our own private collection of residences," says Kristen Nolte, Chief Marketing Officer for Exclusive Resorts. "It is for this reason that we selected Slim's work to be the inspiration for our new "Be A CollectorSM" campaign and created a photography workshop dedicated to re-creating these iconic—and very real—vacation moments in a modern context through the lens of a Leica and Exclusive Resorts vacation."
The 'Shoot Like Slim' photography series will first travel to Exclusive Resorts' luxe two-bedroom apartments at the Vdara® Hotel & Spa from May 14-17, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Students will partake in a series of workshops, from learning the art of landscape and architecture high above the Vegas strip in a hot air balloon to capturing retro inspired decor during a behind-the-scenes tour of the Neon Museum. Students will also master Slim's more distinctive ability of capturing real people experiencing real moments during a poolside photo shoot with a professional model. The Destinations In Focus series will then travel to Los Angeles for a four-day traveling workshop October 3-7, 2015 along the famed California coast. Participants there will enjoy accommodations in a luxury Airstream—as part of Exclusive Resorts' partnership with Airstream 2 Go—with stops in Palm Springs and Malibu. Las Vegas workshop pricing for non-members starts at $7,655 for a single student, which includes a Leica D-Lux camera and stay in a two-bedroom apartment able to accommodate up to three additional guests.
"My father spent much of my childhood traveling the world on assignment and I often went with him as his assistant. Mine was not always the typical summer job; writing captions (at a Greek shipping tycoon's yacht party), selecting a dress for a European Princess or being forced to sit on my hands at a Rancho Santa Fe race horse auction," says Mary Aarons. "My Dad's greatest gift to me was that of world travel. During my time with him on the road I learned so much about composition and the technical aspects of photography. To this day, I hear his voice telling me what to do when I'm snapping my own pictures! I could not be more thrilled to work with Exclusive Resorts and Leica on these weekends celebrating my father's work and inspiring new photographers to the see the world through his eyes."
The Leica Destinations In Focus series joins Exclusive Resorts' dynamic collection of photography experiences providing their members with privileged access to the world's best instructors and camera equipment. As part of the Club's 'Leica on Loan' program, members are also invited to choose from a selection of Leica's latest equipment to use while on vacation including the WIFI enabled Leica C, sought after Leica M and two Ultravid binoculars.
