CHERRY HILL, N.J., May 19, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Destination Imagination (DI), a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching students the creative process through STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), the arts and service learning challenges, will attempt to set the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for "the largest gathering of people wearing duct tape" during the annual Global Finals 3M Duct Tape Costume Ball on Thursday, May 22.
"Each year the students look forward to showcasing their creative hand-made outfits at the 3M Duct Tape Costume Ball," said Dr. Chuck Cadle, Chief Executive Officer of Destination Imagination, Inc. "Last year, we had about 5,000 students participate in the Duct Tape Ball, and we anticipate even more this year as we set our sights on the World Record."
In order for participants to be included in the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® count, they must wear a minimum of two duct tape garments; a top (shirt, jacket) and/or a bottom (shorts, pants, skirts) as well as well as one other element such as a hat or shoe. Although the garments don't have to be made entirely of duct tape, only tape can be visible.
A GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS Adjudicator will be on-site to immediately verify and confirm whether the Costume Ball attendees set the record. Click here to check out some of the creative duct tape costumes from the 2013 3M Duct Tape Costume Ball.
In addition to the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS attempt, Global Finals participants and attendees will be decorating a school bus with Scotch Duct Tape as part of the 3M Duct Tape Playground exhibit at Global Finals. At the end of the week, the 3M school bus will make a special delivery to the local Boys & Girls Club.
