Despite Severe Winter Storm Pennsylvania Slot Machine Revenue Up
HARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 2, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board today posted on its web site the monthly report for total gross revenue and tax revenue generated from the play of slot machines at casinos during January.
According to the report, gross revenue from slot machines at the 12 casinos rose 2.1% in January of this year to $184,811,874 compared to the $180,963,004 in gross revenue that was generated in January 2015.
Prior to the winter storm blanketing most of Pennsylvania during the next to last weekend of the month, slots casino revenue was up almost 5% when comparing the first 21 days of January 2016 against January 2015. While most casinos were able to remain open during the storm, difficulties for patrons in reaching the facilities led to weekend revenues that were much lower than normal.

There are 10 stand-alone and racetrack casinos in operation, along with the two resort casinos. These facilities collectively employ over 17,000 people and generate an average of $3.7 million per day in tax revenue from slot machine and table games play.
