MCLEAN, Va., Sept. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- DeSoto (Texas) High School, which ran by fellow Texas powerhouse Trinity (Euless, TX), 42-21 on Friday, rose 12 spots to No. 5 in this week's USA TODAY High School Sports Super 25 national high school editorial football rankings, which appear in today's print edition of USA TODAY Sports and are also available online at USA TODAY High School Sports (www.usatodayhss.com).
Manatee (FL) remains the number one team in the Super 25 for the third straight week following a 44-34 win over preseason number one Miami (FL) Central. Two teams—Colerain (Cincinnati, OH) and Bergen Catholic (Oradell, NJ) —this week are making their first appearances in this season's Super 25 at No. 13 and No. 17, respectively.
The USA TODAY High School Sports Super 25 is now in its 30th year as the most prestigious high school ranking platform in the nation. Gatorade is the Official Fuel of the Super 25 rankings platform, which includes computer rankings of every major high school football, baseball, boys and girls basketball and boys and girls lacrosse team in the nation.
DeSoto QB Desmon White threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more to lead DeSoto to their win over Trinity and help vault them up the Super 25 rankings from No. 17 to No. 5.
Colerain (4-0) debuts at No. 13 following a 55-0 blanking of Princeton (Cincinnati, OH), while Bergen Catholic QB Jon Germano threw for three TDs and ran for another to lead the Crusaders (2-0) to a 42-35 road win over previously-unbeaten and No. 9-ranked Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, NV) and the No. 17 ranking in the Super 25.
