Design Flexibility Provides Scalable Performance in New Rugged COM Express Module from MEN Micro
ARM i.MX 6 processors and configurable FPGA provide exceptional I/O customization
BLUE BELL, Pa., April 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- MEN Micro Inc., a world-renowned provider of embedded computing and I/O solutions for mission-critical industrial, mobile and harsh environment applications, has released the CC10C, a Rugged COM Express (RCE) module that offers an abundance of I/O design flexibility.

Supporting different Freescale ARM i.MX 6 processors, the exceptionally scalable COM module easily accommodates various system requirements. Where computation and graphical needs are lower, costs can be optimized using a single- or dual-core processor, versus a more high-end quad-core for systems requiring higher performance computing.
The i.MX 6 family also provides on-chip controllers and interfaces supporting Gigabit Ethernet, USB 2.0, PCI Express, UART or CAN as well as multimedia interfaces, such as LVDS, DVI, audio and a camera connection.
The new VITA 59 RCE computer-on-module features a configurable FPGA with 140 pins for additional I/O customization. Easily integrated IP cores enable the CC10C to become a semi-custom solution for implementing more specialized applications.
Onboard memory includes up to 4 GB of DDR3 RAM and a soldered eMMC as well as 3-Gigabit SATA for external mass storage. The i.MX 6 processor comes with up to 1 MB of L2 cache and can stream multiple HD videos to deliver up to 1080p60 decode.
VITA 59 RCE: Rugged COM Express, currently in preparation, ruggedizes the common and well-accepted computer-on-module concept to enable this cost-effective technology to be employed in harsh environments and applications. The CC10C complies with the basic dimensions of the COM Express Compact form factor and uses a Type 6 pin-out.
The module is encased in a robust conduction-cooled cover and frame with a thermal connection to the CC10C's PCB. This enables a high operating temperature of -40°C to +85°C, while securing the modules to be 100% EMC protected as well as resistant to high levels of shock, vibration, dust, humidity and chemicals.
Technical Specifications:
- VITA 59 RCE; compliant with COM Express Compact, Type 6 pin-out
- Operating temperature of -40 degrees C to +85 degrees C
- Based on ARM i.MX 6 processor series for computing flexibility
- Integrated FPGA provides 140 pins for customized I/O
Pricing for the CC10C is $598. Delivery is six to eight weeks ARO.
