Desert Storm Vet, College Football Star Thumbs His Nose at Nation's Healthcare Crisis
DENVER, March 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The focus on health and wellness has never been greater in our nation. As rising healthcare costs and shrinking reimbursement continue to put strain on providers and patients, people like 61-year-old Parker, Colorado resident Randy Flood are realizing the best defense is a good offense.
Topping more than 340 pounds, Randy, a former member of Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf's Desert Storm medical team awoke one day and saw a shadow of his former self staring back at him in the mirror.
"I used to literally roll out of bed, drink 12+ cups of coffee a day, eat a lot of chocolate, and have difficulty in performing the simplest tasks like tying my shoes, getting up off the couch, and was exhausted with the slightest activity," Randy said.
He admits that the sobering image of what he had become gave him the desire to get fit, but he struggled with motivation.
"I got off to a very slow start because I didn't change my lifestyle. I had lost only 24 pounds of fat during the first 60 days. My oldest son Gavin detected my frustration," Randy recounts. "Gavin texted me, 'better not be quitting.' I promised him that I wouldn't. The last thing I wanted to be was a failure in the eyes of my son."
As a retired military healthcare professional and former college football athlete, Randy knew the key to winning the battle of the bulge wasn't in a diet, but rather in a lifestyle change, lessons he'd learned from Isagenix International, a worldwide health-and-wellness company that specializes in systems that support sustainable weight management and fitness lifestyles.
"I signed up for the IsaBody Challenge because I knew it would give me the focus I needed, the support I needed, and the results I wanted," he stated.
With a new found drive, the 340 pound former Oklahoma State University football Center dropped nearly 90 pounds of unhealthy body weight while increasing his lean muscle. His astounding results actually garnered him a top position in the Isagenix IsaBody Challenge as a national finalist.
"Randy embodies the type of person we are looking for in our IsaBody Challenge," said Ashley Brown, IsaBody Challenge® Supervisor for Isagenix International. "Our mission is to transform lives -- lives of people from all walks of life. At Isagenix we understand life's health-and-wellness challenges. In fact, most of us -- myself included -- have been there at some point ourselves. We're here to be at your side -- through every step of your journey to a happier, healthier you."
"My goal is to lose my wife, Ilka," Randy jokingly states. "She weighs 116 pounds. Once I've lost that amount of unhealthy weight, I'll know I've arrived."
