DES MOINES, Iowa, Dec. 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Technology hiring in Des Moines is expected to start strong in 2018, according to the Robert Half Technology IT Hiring Forecast and Local Trend Report. Twenty-three percent of CIOs surveyed here said they plan to add full-time technology professionals to their teams in the first half of the new year, up 12 percentage points from a year ago. In addition to hiring plans, the report also highlights technology skills in demand and CIOs' top priorities for the first six months of the year.
"Big data initiatives, new software implementations and app development are a few of the driving forces behind tech hiring in Des Moines," said Kathy Northamer, district president for Robert Half Technology in Des Moines. "Demand is high for professionals with C# and .Net expertise, as well as Java developers, systems engineers and senior systems administrators, particularly in the professional services, financial services and software sectors."

It continues to be a competitive hiring environment: 68 percent of CIOs in Des Moines said that it's challenging to find skilled IT professionals in today's market. The skills in greatest demand within their organizations, according to respondents, include:
- Desktop support (57 percent)
- Business intelligence/reporting services (52 percent)
- Network administration (52 percent)
- Database management (51 percent)
Top Priorities
When asked to name their top priority for the next six months, 26 percent of Des Moines CIOs said they will be focused on upgrading existing systems for business efficiency. Other priorities will include:
- Technology innovation and investing in new technologies (20 percent)
- Staff retention (18 percent)
- Maintaining security of IT systems and safeguarding company information (18 percent)
- Innovation and helping to grow the business (16 percent)
