Continuing the momentum, FITE is launching new initiatives and the first FITE Impact Day on July 18th 2013 to honor the legacy of human rights champion Nelson Mandela by supporting the next generation of South African leaders following in his footsteps. With this purpose, Dermalogica will partner with two organizations headquartered in Cape Town – Project Ignition of South Africa, a Global Fund for Women grantee, and These Numbers Have Faces. Project Ignition creates opportunities for young women in under-served communities between the ages of 14-25 by providing them with the tools to become strong leaders within their communities. FITE will help sponsor the entrepreneurship training for these girls. These Numbers Have Faces provides scholarships to young people who would otherwise not have access to higher education. This year, FITE will sponsor scholarships for three women in Cape Town, South Africa. The scholarship recipients will, in turn, each participate in helping their communities through volunteer work, leadership and financial literacy trainings, and a commitment to "pay it forward" by helping another student complete the program.
In addition, Dermalogica's concept spaces in Santa Monica, CA, Manhattan, NY and Scottsdale, AZ will participate in several ways, including distributing $25 Kiva gift cards and encouraging consumers to visit Kiva.org to direct a free loan to an entrepreneur of their choosing. On Mandela Day, Dermalogica employees will write postcards of support and encouragement to the girls participating in Project Ignition's leadership programs.
