CARSON, Calif., Feb. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In the spirit of National Women's History Month and International Women's Day on March 8, Dermalogica and its philanthropic arm FITE (www.joinFITE.org) have set an exciting new fundraising goal to help economically empower 50,000 women entrepreneurs worldwide. This announcement comes with the launch of an innovation and entrepreneurship partnership with the United Nations Foundation (UNF), where Jane Wurwand, visionary philanthropist and co-founder of Dermalogica and The International Dermal Institute (IDI), has accepted a leadership role as Special Advisor to UNF's Global Entrepreneurs Council, supporting their work with the United Nations to advance women and girls.
In celebration of International Women's Day, the FITE team will be participating in national panels and a week-long series of events and celebrations with partners UNF, ongoing non-profit partner microlender Kiva, and tech innovator Dell and DWEN (Dell Women's Entrepreneur Network) at South by South West (SXSW). The events will culminate in San Francisco, where Jane Wurwand will join Kathy Calvin, President and CEO of the United Nations Foundation and Musimbi Kanyoro, President and CEO of the Global Fund for Women in discussion with Norway's first Woman Prime Minister, Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland, on the global economic state of women.
"Dermalogica is and has always been a company about women's empowerment," says Wurwand. "This is our brand DNA at its core. For more than 25 years, our business has been creating educational and professional opportunities for women around the world, and with this year's International Women's Day and activities throughout the month of March honoring women's work, all of us at Dermalogica are fully committed in reaching our goal of funding 50,000 women entrepreneurs."
On March 8, Dermalogica will kick things off with Dell, Intel and UNF in Austin Texas at SXSW. Director of Global Impact, Natalie Byrne, will participate in a panel discussion and screening of "Girl Rising", which will be followed by a FITE after party with a live-music performance by singer songwriter, Tori Kelly. FITE will make a donation on behalf of guests and provide consumers with Dell activation stations to allow participants the opportunity to meet the women they are helping.
Dermalogica employees, stockists and customers across the U.S. and subsidiary offices around the world will participate in the celebration. Retail and online purchases made within Dermalogica's concepts spaces during the week of March 8-15 will receive complimentary FITE donations towards a woman and IDI training centers will make loans in honor of students attending classes. FITE will match the donation for participants who make a $25 loan to a woman entrepreneur and credits the Dermalogica team on Kiva.org.
