Derek Tower and Sara Erlandson Crowned 2014 Big Buck Hunter World Champions
GLEN ELLYN, Ill., Nov. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Seventh Annual Big Buck World Championship went WILD October 24th and October 25th at The Pourhouse in Minneapolis, MN. From a record qualifying field, the best Big Buck Hunters from around the world all gathered for the biggest arcade gaming event of the year.
The Ladies Tournament started the excitement as the best female hunters went at it in head to head competition. Of the 59 matches played, none was more exciting than the final between former champs, Melinda Van Hoomissen (2013) and Sara Erlandson (2011, 2012). The competition was incredibly tough but the sharp shooting Erlandson rose above all, making her a third time winner of the $5,000 top prize and the coveted 'Jugs of Destiny' trophy. Melinda Van Hoomissen, in 2nd place, filled her pockets with $2,000. Audra Zentner came in 3rd and took home $1,500 and Lindsay Breckenridge claimed 4th place and $1,000 big bucks!
Day two did not disappoint as the world's top 64 players competed for the 2014 Big Buck World Championship. Coming out of the Reload bracket, Derek Tower of St. Louis had his work cut out. He needed to beat last year's runner-up Matthew Garver in two straight adventures to claim the Championship. This represents the first Championship for Tower and the state of Missouri. Prior to this year, his best finish, in 2013, was 23rd. Tower also took home $15,000 and the legendary Pappy's Jug. Garver of Texas pocketed $7,500. Former champion Chris Fream and John Byrne, representing the host city, snagged third place for $5,000 and fourth place for $2,500 respectively.
The coverage of this year's event reached new heights with a start to finish live stream broadcast on twitch.tv. Over 9000 viewers tuned in to watch the event.
