"Saving time and money are top priorities for most busy Americans," said Jim Kelly, Head of Direct Bank, ING DIRECT USA. "Enabling Customers to quickly and securely deposit money at home or on the go is just another way ING DIRECT streamlines the banking process."
ING DIRECT's CheckMate gives Customers the flexibility and convenience to deposit checks anytime and from anywhere. By simply snapping a picture of a check, Customers can directly deposit money into their Electric Orange(SM) checking, Orange Savings Account(SM), MONEY account, or Kids Savings Account(SM) in the following two ways:
- ING DIRECT iPhone or Android app – To make a deposit, Customers can simply take a picture of their check with their iPhone or Android device and the money goes straight to their ING DIRECT account.
- CheckMate Image Upload – Customers can use any smartphone or digital camera to capture an image of both sides of their check and save it to their computer. After the image is saved, they sign in to their account through ING DIRECT's secure website and upload the images to complete their deposit. CheckMate's image-upload option offers a quick and easy solution for Savers who are simply looking for a faster way to deposit checks.
An ING DIRECT survey fielded to uncover consumers' checking preferences found that two-thirds (63 percent) of Americans said they are still taking deposits to a bank branch teller and more than half of those surveyed deposit two or more checks per month. With CheckMate, Customers now have more options for depositing their hard-earned money – even from the comfort of their own home.
For direct banking, remote deposit capture is the next innovative trend. According to the ING DIRECT survey, about a third (32 percent) of Americans who have never used remote deposit capture said they would use the technology in the future when it became available.
Survey Methodology
The national phone survey was conducted within the United States by TNS on behalf of ING DIRECT USA from June 22 through June 26, 2011 and included 1,000 adults age 18+. No estimates of theoretical sampling error can be calculated; a full methodology is available.
