Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, National Guard Uses Social Media to Connect to Citizens
HARRISBURG, Pa., April 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The commonwealth is using popular social networking tools to help Pennsylvanians to connect with and learn about the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and the Pennsylvania National Guard, Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Jessica L. Wright said today.
Gen. Wright said the public can now become a Facebook fan, a Twitter follower, a Flickr contact, and a YouTube subscriber of these agencies.
"Increasingly people are looking to the Internet as their primary source of news and information," said Gen. Wright. "Social media allows us to have more direct conversations and connections with Pennsylvania's service members, veterans, their families, and the general public."
By adding social media to its communications efforts, Wright added, DMVA and the PA Guard can more actively share information, updates, photos or video on the websites many people are already using on a regular basis.
Wright is the first member of Governor Rendell's cabinet to tweet on behalf of the agency they head.
