Department of Labor & Industry Highlights Industry Partnership Successes
Initiative Brings Employers Together, Provides Advanced Training to Workforce
ERIE, Pa., April 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Labor & Industry Deputy Secretary for Workforce Development Robert Garraty today commended industry partnership participants, highlighting the initiative's value as part of Pennsylvania's industry-led workforce development system.
"Industry partnerships are helping to position Pennsylvania as the workforce and economic leader our state should be," Garraty said during a visit to the Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership Rotunda. "Participants' employees are receiving the advanced training necessary to succeed in today's workplace."
Joined by members of the General Assembly, representatives from the Erie Regional Chamber, Comfort Care & Resources Inc., the Warren Company and the Regional Center for Workforce Excellence, Garraty commended the state House of Representatives for unanimously approving House Bill 2230, which would establish industry partnerships under law, and urged quick approval of the bill by the Senate.
"Industry partnerships are the beating heart of Pennsylvania's sector-based workforce development strategy," Garraty said. "Our nationally respected model is delivering the advantage employers and workers need to beat the competition."
Industry partnerships can identify specific training needs and skill gaps, help connect young people to careers, help educational and training institutions arrange curriculum to meet business demands, address worker recruitment and retention, develop career ladders within companies, highlight best practices, and promote communication among companies.
Across Pennsylvania, nearly 6,300 employers from 20 industries are in 74 active industry partnerships; with more than 75,000 workers trained since the program began in 2005.
