Department of Interior selects MaaS360 to embrace new Digital Government Strategy
Fiberlink's Cloud-based Platform Enables Cost-effective, Scalable Management of iPads, iPhones and Android Devices with Instant-on Continuous Monitoring
PHILADELPHIA, July 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Fiberlink®, the leader in software-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions for secure mobile device management (MDM) and mobile application management (MAM), today announced the Department of Interior (DOI) deployed MaaS360 to provide visibility and control over its employee- and government-owned laptops, smartphones and tablets.
The DOI's IT department manages various Bureaus, including Indian Affairs, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, U.S. Geological Survey and others. As part of DOI's IT Transformation Plan, MaaS360 was selected to help facilitate the streamlining of previously fragmented IT silos across the Bureaus, providing enterprise visibility to the Office of the Chief Information Officer, while still providing autonomy to the Bureaus to manage their own devices through MaaS360.
The DOI has a standing mandate that requires all devices to be in compliance with strict security standards regardless of a DOI connection, Internet connection or the form factor of the device. By using MaaS360 to create a comprehensive asset and vulnerability baseline, DOI is able to monitor roaming laptops and to control smartphones and tablets, including iPhones, iPads, Androids and BlackBerrys. The DOI is now able to increase cost savings by more accurately identifying, evaluating and ultimately retiring duplicate and underutilized legacy assets.
In addition to the comprehensive mobility management feature set offered by Fiberlink, the DOI selected MaaS360 for its credentials as the only MDM cloud-service to receive authority to operate under the U.S. Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA). As part of the certification process, Fiberlink included the FedRAMP controls, which are designed specifically for cloud providers, and also fully supports the DOI's requirements for CyberScope reporting.
Built on a hierarchical multi-tenant architecture which helps meet the U.S. Office of Management and Budget's (OMB) requirements to leverage shared services platforms, MaaS360 gives the DOI unprecedented visibility across the agency while giving each Bureau the ability to manage its own policies and device populations.
MaaS360 enables the DOI and its Bureaus to:
- Utilize over-the-air (OTA) device configuration management
- Enforce security policies for passcodes, device encryption and more
- Remediate issues on mobile laptops when disconnected from the Internet
- Enforce Mobile Network Access Control on mobile endpoints for enhanced Defense in Depth
- Enable true continuous monitoring on mobile endpoints even when off the DOI network
- Perform remote actions such as full and selective wipe, device lock and passcode reset
- Use privacy settings to protect personally identifiable information
- Remove and distribute applications, enforce whitelisting, blacklisting and required apps
- Distribute sensitive documents in a secure container with centralized management
"The Department of Interior and its Bureaus are taking a proactive stance in enabling mobile devices while ensuring proper management and reporting," said Jeff Ward, vice president of Federal sales at Fiberlink. "With MaaS360, government agencies can not only secure information on mobile devices, but significantly improve their responsiveness and accountability."
