DEP Acting Secretary Congratulates Award-Winning Lancaster City Brownfields Revitalization Project
HARRISBURG, Pa., April 5, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Acting Secretary of the Department of Environmental Protection Michael Krancer today congratulated the Lancaster Northwest Gateway Project, one of only ten recipients nationwide of the 2010 Phoenix Awards.
Lancaster Northwest Gateway Project, a $120 million redevelopment project in Lancaster City, was the product of collaboration between area business, residents, government and Franklin & Marshall College.
"The Lancaster Northwest Gateway Project revitalized a once-decaying section of the city into a hub for jobs, innovation, and education," said Krancer. "I commend the leaders of the project for their vision and congratulate them whole-heartedly for winning this prestigious award."
The Lancaster Northwest Gateway Project transformed industrial and railway property into the site for Lancaster General Hospital's nursing school, Franklin & Marshall College's athletic facilities, the 6,000-seat Clipper Magazine Stadium, and the renovated Lancaster Amtrak Station.
The Phoenix Awards recognized one project from each of EPA's 10 regions across the nation for innovative techniques and solutions used by local professional, residential, and government leaders.
"What many saw as abandoned industrial land lying fallow, a few saw an opportunity for business, for a hub of medicine, for education, recreation, and revitalization," Krancer said. "I salute the leaders behind the Lancaster Northwest Gateway Project for their noble efforts."
