Denver Mayor, Committed Supporters, Volunteers, Victims and Survivors Join MADD for 5K Walk to Eliminate Drunk Driving
DENVER, Aug. 4, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- More than 1,000 walkers supported Mothers Against Drunk Driving® (MADD) at the 7th annual Denver Walk Like MADD® event on Saturday, August 4th, raising over $100,000 to help eliminate drunk driving and support victims/survivors in Colorado.
Mayor Michael B. Hancock of the City & County of Denver kicked off this year's walk as the featured speaker. "MADD's work is important to Denver because even one injury or life lost to drunk driving is one too many," said Mayor Hancock. "The City of Denver is proud to join the participants of Walk Like MADD to support keeping Colorado's communities safe. Let's put drunk driving in the history books. Join us in delivering a world-class city where everyone matters."
Walkers completed a 5K route circling Sloan's Lake Park in Denver. Participants also enjoyed festivities, including a Health & Safety Fair, Kids' Zone, Teen Scene, and Doggie Den.
Funds raised through Walk Like MADD further MADD's life-saving mission and the Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving®, which calls for high-visibility law enforcement, ignition interlocks for all convicted drunk drivers and support for the development of advanced technology to automatically determine if a driver is drunk.
The 2012 Denver Walk Like MADD is presented by Bachus & Schanker, LLC, MADD Colorado's Statewide Sponsor, and American Family Insurance.
"We are excited to support Walk Like MADD as the Statewide Sponsor of MADD Colorado," says Darin L. Schanker, founding partner of Bachus & Schanker, LLC.
