DENVER, Jun. 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Denver International Airport (DEN), the sixth busiest gateway in the U.S. by passenger traffic, recently contracted with CH2M to provide design and construction administration services for several gate apron rehabilitation and drainage improvements at the airport.
The scope of the three-year project encompasses professional engineering support and technical services for enhancements adjacent to Concourses A, B and C, including:
- providing pavement evaluations, recommendations and phasing for the program;
- replacing deteriorating apron pavement, mitigating apron drainage issues and ponding, and preventing water infiltration into the concourse basements; and
- conducting utility and infrastructure work, including the installation of a new drainage system, utility vault adjustments, demolition of baggage tunnels and dog houses, removal of deicing tanks, replacement of sand-oil interceptors and replacement of grease traps.
A critical success factor for the project will be coordinating construction activities with the airlines, concessionaires, airport management and ground transportation, to support ongoing flight operations.
Said CH2M Program Manager Nick Rollo, "Delivering airport rehabilitation and expansion projects while minimizing impacts to airport operations is what we do best. We have assembled an exceptionally talented team with a depth of technical knowledge around the gate apron program at DEN. We look forward to collaborating with the airport's stakeholders and construction partners to make this project a resounding success."
Headquartered in Colorado, CH2M has provided expert airfield engineering services to DEN since its opening in 1995, successfully completing more than 50 assignments, including the design of two of the airport's original runways (7-25 and 8-26), as well as the 6th Runway (16R-34L).
