Now through Feb. 9, parents, current and former students alike aged 18 years and older are invited to visit www.dennysforeducation.com and nominate (in 100 words or less) an inspiring educator who has made a difference in the lives of all he or she has taught and continues to teach today – both in- and outside of the classroom. One grand prize winner will be selected to receive a complimentary cabin on board the six-night, seven-day Fantastic Voyage cruise, roundtrip airfare to and from Miami, one-night hotel accommodations and a $200 gift card. The winning nominator will be awarded a tablet computer, free Denny's Grand Slam® breakfasts for one full year and will be featured alongside his or her teacher in a future Black Equal Opportunity Employment Journal spread.
"Denny's is proud to be a long-time partner of the Tom Joyner Foundation and all it does to help deserving students succeed on every level," said John Miller, Denny's president and chief executive. "Denny's has supported more than 300 students, contributing more than $525,000 to the foundation's programs and scholarship funds since 2002. Our 2014 'All Aboard for Education' voyage is truly 'fantastic'! The contest is a natural extension of Denny's longstanding tradition of celebrating the importance of education while also appreciating those incredible teachers who always go that extra mile to support and inspire us all."
Affectionately known as the "Ultimate Party With A Purpose®," the Tom Joyner Foundation Fantastic Voyage is the signature fundraiser benefitting the Tom Joyner Foundation. The foundation provides scholarships that afford diverse academic opportunities to students looking to attend and attending historically black colleges and universities. The annual cruise sets sail from Miami on Sunday, March 16, making stops in Nassau, Bahamas; St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; and Grand Turk Island.
"I appreciate all that Denny's has contributed to the Tom Joyner Foundation and I'm excited about their focus on education," stated Tom Joyner, chairman of the Tom Joyner Foundation and host of the nationally syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show. "We've all had one teacher that made us excited about learning, and 'All Aboard for Education' is the perfect extension of what the Tom Joyner Foundation works to do for students at historically black colleges and universities."
