The Tellabs Optical LAN solution satisfies Deltek's immediate bandwidth needs with gigabit-to-the-desk service. And its fiber-optic network can scale up as bandwidth needs grow over the next 25 years. Optical LAN delivers significant savings in capital expenses, power consumption and space requirements. Those savings add up to a lower total cost of ownership, compared with traditional copper-based LANs.
Tellabs Optical LAN partner NET 100 demonstrated the value of fiber over copper for the enterprise to Deltek. As one of Tellabs' growing number of Optical LAN partners, Net 100 positions, sells and supports Tellabs Optical LAN to replace legacy switch-based copper LANs. NET100 installed, turned up and provides ongoing support for the Optical LAN at Deltek.
The passive Optical LAN fits with Deltek's environmental-sustainability goals. Deltek headquarters achieved a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver accreditation by the U.S. Green Building Council for its reduced power consumption, innovation and sustainability.
Tellabs Optical LAN Solution provides enterprises with high bandwidth, high security, lower energy usage and lower cost. Tellabs Optical LAN replaces conventional, copper-based LANs in buildings and on campuses, providing high-speed connectivity over single-mode fiber. With Tellabs Optical LAN, enterprises can save up to:
- 70% of total cost of ownership
- 80% of energy consumption
- 90% of space requirements.
Deltek had used a traditional copper-based LAN architecture in its 5 previous facilities in metropolitan Washington, D.C. After consolidating those facilities and 700 of its 1,700 worldwide employees into its new headquarters, Deltek chose the Tellabs Optical LAN solution to support the company's VoIP, data and video applications.
George Goforth, Deltek vice president of IT, wanted a solution that could not only deliver additional bandwidth and ultra-reliable performance but also reduce hardware and hardware-maintenance costs.
"The Passive Optical LAN proved to be the ideal choice," Goforth said. "We have reduced our CapEx budget because we no longer have to swap out switches every 4 to 7 years. Its operational simplicity means our IT staff members don't have to spend a lot of time on LAN and port management, so they can focus on other support activities."
With the Tellabs Optical LAN support for 1G/10G Ethernet network interfaces, Tom Ruvarac, Tellabs director-product management, said, "Passive Optical LAN integrated easily with Deltek's core switches and voice-over-IP (VoIP) infrastructure, thereby protecting Deltek's existing network investments."
