Delta's Ring of Celestial Bliss Wins the A+ Award, an International Award for Architecture
NEW YORK, May 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Ring of Celestial Bliss, which was organized by Delta Electronics and designed by J.J. Pan and Partners Architects and Planners, was the most eye-catching lantern at the 2013 Hsinchu Taiwan Lantern Festival with its total eco-friendly design and advanced projection technology. This lantern structure was recently recognized with an "A+ Award", an international award for architecture, by a professional jury and the reading public in the category of Commercial Pop-Ups & Temporary Buildings. Mr. J.J. Pan, founder of J.J. Pan and Partners, attended the award ceremony in New York City today.
"I would like to share this honor with Delta. The design of the Ring of Celestial Bliss was inspired by Delta's mission and contributions to environmental sustainability. Using Delta's professional projectors with this structure, our aim was to encourage people to cherish our natural resources to provide long-lasting benefits to mankind and greater happiness," said Mr. J.J. Pan.
The Ring of Celestial Bliss fulfills Delta's corporate mission of "to provide innovative, clean and energy-efficient solutions for a better tomorrow." "We were glad to see our green design make a sustainable lifestyle a reality. It has allowed us to present Delta's dedication to corporate social responsibility," said Mr. Bruce Cheng, the founder and honorary chairman of Delta.
The world's biggest lantern, Delta's Ring of Celestial Bliss was a 10m tall, 70m wide and 270-degree circular structure. With recycling and sustainability concepts implemented throughout its lifecycle, the ring was built with only reusable materials. Delta's Ring of Celestial Bliss was also the first building in Taiwan to undergo a carbon audit. The carbon emissions from the ring were only 21.3% of conventional steel and concrete buildings of the same type. After the festival, all of the construction materials were reused: the steel became the roof structure of a semi-outdoor basketball court for an elementary school in Taitung; the screen was recycled as handbags; and the LED lighting solutions were installed at the Taiwan National Museum of Natural Science as an outdoor lighting design.
Outstanding projection technology also played a key role in Delta's Ring of Celestial Bliss. The films "Sun and Moon" and "Four Seasons" based on the design concept of "Long Lasting," were perfectly displayed using 15 Delta high-resolution projectors each with a luminance of up to 30,000 lumens.
In addition to the ring, Delta has engaged J.J Pan and Partners to design several green office buildings, including Delta's new Americas headquarters in Fremont, CA, which will be in operation in the second half of 2015. The building is expected to be LEED-Platinum certified and achieve net-zero energy consumption.
The A+ Awards is organized by the New York-based professional architecture website Architizer. For buildings and spaces made by architects, the professional judging panel and more than 40,000 readers rate separate projects in nine building categories including residential, commercial, transportation and cultural. This year the award received more than 3,000 entries from over 80 countries. Phaidon, the premier global publisher for creative arts with over 1,500 titles in print, publishes an annual book of the A+ Award winners.
