The new service complements Delta's ongoing investment in New York as it works to establish itself as New York's leading airline.
Delta recently opened the new Terminal 4 at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport as part of a $1.4 billion airport redevelopment program. In 2012, the airline invested more than $160 million to expand and update Terminals C and D at LaGuardia, and expanded its flights at that airport by 60 percent. Today, Delta provides service to more destinations from New York state than any other airline.
With its new Paris flight, Delta also underscores its commitment to serving New York customers for whom Newark offers the most convenient option and goes hand and hand with the airline's current Newark-Amsterdam service.
"Our new flight from Newark to Paris is a continuation of Delta's effort to be the preeminent carrier for the New York area," said Bob Cortelyou, Delta's senior vice president – Network Planning. "This new route will provide our customers with extensive connection opportunities in Paris with our partner, Air France, and complement Delta's existing service to Amsterdam with partner KLM."
The new service will be operated with Boeing 767-300ER aircraft, featuring full-flat bed seats in BusinessElite, offering each customer direct aisle access. To date, more than 60 percent of aircraft have been modified with full flat-bed seating including all Boeing 747, 767-400ER and 777 fleet types, with the entire widebody fleet scheduled to be complete in mid-2014.
Additionally, like all of Delta's international fleet, this service will offer Economy Comfort, Delta's premium economy product which includes four additional inches of legroom and 50 percent more recline. Delta also announced it will begin offering in-flight internet service on its long-haul international fleet in 2013.
"By combining our strengths, we can offer more convenient connections to hundreds of worldwide destinations. The Newark-Paris route will provide further access to Europe, Africa, India and the Middle East via the industry's most integrated joint venture," said Patrick Roux, senior vice president, Air France-KLM, Americas.
In addition to Newark, this summer Delta will offer flights between Paris and its hubs at New York-JFK, Atlanta, Salt Lake City, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Detroit and Cincinnati, as well as key business markets in Boston, Seattle, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
