Deloitte Tops Bloomberg BusinessWeek's 'Best Places to Intern 2009' List
Deloitte Recognized for Outstanding Career Enhancement Opportunities in 2009
NEW YORK, Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Deloitte today announced that it has been ranked No. 1 on Bloomberg BusinessWeek's third annual "Best Places to Intern" list, which identifies the top 40 undergraduate internship programs in the country. The ranking considered data from employer surveys, such as compensation and the percentage of interns who receive and accept offers for full-time positions, along with feedback from career services directors across the United States.
This recognition follows Deloitte's No. 1 ranking on Bloomberg BusinessWeek's third annual "Best Places to Launch a Career" list, which identified the top 50 U.S. entry-level employers. Deloitte was recognized for its rich benefits, generous time-off policy, progressive workplace environment, substantially higher pay for entry-level hires and extensive training programs.
"Earning the Bloomberg BusinessWeek distinction as the top undergraduate internship program and the premier destination to start a career tells compelling story about how the Deloitte workplace is experienced by our young professionals," said Cathy Benko, vice chairman and Deloitte's chief talent officer. "This most recent recognition comes in a long line of industry validations for our commitment to attracting and retaining the brightest and best talent in today's market."
Deloitte's internship program is designed to provide an exceptional experience to undergraduate students who work side-by-side with client service professionals for some of the world's top companies. During the program, Deloitte gives students an inside look at the organization's culture, values and life at Deloitte through mentoring relationships, leadership development programs and networking events.
"This ranking underscores the value of a challenging and engaging internship program to tomorrow's leaders and today's employers alike," said Diane Borhani, Deloitte's U.S. Campus Recruiting leader. "The many talented individuals who join Deloitte as interns gain exceptional, hands-on experience working directly with clients and in a high-performance environment. Students also find that the learning opportunities at the internship level are just the beginning, and as a result, many of them return to join our organization to pursue careers in professional services."
In 2009, Deloitte garnered several top employer-of-choice recognitions in addition to those from Bloomberg BusinessWeek. In September, Deloitte received a top ten ranking on Working Mother magazine's 2009 list of "100 Best Companies for Working Mothers," which recognizes organizations that earn high scores in such categories as flexibility, childcare, time off, leave of absence and workplace culture. Deloitte was recently named a "model employer" in conjunction with "The Shriver Report: A Woman's Nation Changes Everything," a study released by Maria Shriver and the Center for American Progress. Deloitte was cited as "an excellent example of an employer that has taken an aggressive leadership position in protean career approaches," providing career-life integration programs that allow both the organization and its workforce — women and men — to reach their goals." Also in 2009, Deloitte was named on Working Mother's "Best Companies for Multicultural Women," the DiversityInc. "Top 50 Companies for Diversity" and FORTUNE's "100 Best Companies to Work For" lists, among others.
