BOSTON, Nov. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- City Year and Deloitte have announced that Deloitte is renewing its support as City Year's "National Strategy and Innovation Sponsor" for the next year, with a total investment of more than $1.1 million in cash and pro-bono consulting services. Since 2001, Deloitte has invested $8.1 million in cash and pro-bono consulting services in City Year.
"Deloitte strengthens City Year's capacity by providing indispensable professional experience and skills, financial resources, and strategic counsel," said Jim Balfanz, President of City Year. "The relationship enables City Year to maximize our impact in schools by helping us to navigate complex strategic and operational challenges, enhancing our work with both students and City Year AmeriCorps members across the country and the globe."
In 27 cities across the country and two affiliates abroad, City Year AmeriCorps members serve full-time in schools providing students with tutoring and in-class support, extended day programs, as well as organizing school-wide initiatives to increase academic achievement and student engagement. As City Year has evolved into an education organization, Deloitte's consulting work has been a driving force supporting the development of City Year's long-term impact strategy, strategic roadmap, implementation plans, and staffing structures. Deloitte consultants who work with City Year become a part of the City Year team, helping address key strategic and operational challenges related to City Year's model.
"As City Year's National Strategy and Innovation Sponsor, we will continue to help City Year innovate and maximize its impact in schools across the country," said Bill Copeland, Vice Chairman, Deloitte LLP, and Education Champion and U.S. Life Sciences and Health Care Leader. "The dedication that City Year AmeriCorps members have to their students mirrors the dedication that our practitioners have to our clients. City Year's dedication to and effectiveness in addressing the dropout crisis continue to inspire our organization."
In addition to Deloitte's impactful financial investment and pro-bono consulting support, more than 150 Deloitte professionals mentor City Year AmeriCorps members annually and 17 Deloitte professionals currently serve as board members across the City Year network. Deloitte professionals offer their skills to City Year AmeriCorps members and staff through a mentorship program and by facilitating career development workshops for AmeriCorps members and offering professional development trainings for City Year staff. This year Deloitte will be expanding its direct engagement with students with workshops designed to help middle school students set goals and prepare for the transition to high school.
