Deloitte Foundation and American Accounting Association Host Case Study Seminars for Accounting and Auditing Educators
Thought leaders gather at the 47th annual Trueblood Seminars for Professors
WILTON, Conn., March 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Approximately 70 accounting and auditing professionals and educators convened at the 47th annual Robert M. Trueblood Seminars for Professors to discuss the challenges facing the accounting profession today. Hosted by the Deloitte Foundation and the American Accounting Association (AAA), the seminars are a unique opportunity for thought leaders from business and academia to examine current accounting practices through real world case studies.
Held on February 23-25 and March 8-10, 2012 at Deloitte University's landmark campus for learning and leadership development near Dallas, Texas, the sessions featured more than 20 Deloitte-developed case studies exploring complex financial accounting and auditing issues. Each seminar also included a presentation from a senior Deloitte leader, an open forum discussion on professional development and an update on the standard-setting activities of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and International Accounting Standards Board (IASB).
"The Trueblood Seminars foster earnest and intelligent dialogue on the changes in our profession and how it is affected by the evolving business and regulatory environments," said Shaun Budnik, president of the Deloitte Foundation. "Evaluating the case studies enables educators to infuse their curricula with the current challenges impacting practitioners today. This is the most important outcome of these sessions, as it plays a vital role in training and developing the next generation of skilled and qualified accounting talent."
The Trueblood Seminars Planning Committee, led by co-chairs Carie Ford of Baylor University and Paula Thomas of Middle Tennessee State University, managed the development of this year's program content. The committee also included: James Chyz (University of Tennessee), Jon Duchac (Wake Forest University), Kevin Jackson (University of Illinois), Wendy Wilson (Southern Methodist University), Alan Reinstein (Wayne State University) and Shaun Budnik (Deloitte).
The Deloitte Foundation's Trueblood Case Study Series includes approximately 50 accounting and auditing cases. It is available online for faculty use at http://www.deloitte.com/us/truebloodcases.
