Full story
Dell is removing the barriers to VDI adoption with the expansion of Dell EMC VDI Complete Solutions, powered by VMware Horizon®, making it easier for organizations to plan, deploy and run desktop and application virtualization within their IT environments. Today, Dell is expanding the portfolio to include options with Horizon Apps as well as NVIDIA Tesla M10 and M60 GPU graphics acceleratorsi. Also available now is the Latitude 5280 mobile thin client for those who need to be on the move but need to ensure full security and control over sensitive data.
Tailored end-to-end VDI solutions
Organizations that simply want to enable virtual application delivery to PCs or thin clients can now purchase VDI Complete with Horizon Apps. This solution allows for high session density with up to 1,400 hosted apps, so more apps can be delivered to more users faster. IT administrators can add, update and retire applications in real time, and instantly roll out apps to all users or selected groups of users. End users can self-manage the apps that they need at any given time, reducing endpoint resource requirements.
Standard web and office productivity apps are driving more immersive experiences, and consuming ever greater graphics resources now than they have in the past. According to a white paper by Lakeside Software, CPU consumption has increased 32% with Windows 10 versus Windows 7ii, and applications that are accelerated by graphics has doubled since 2012iii. Dell is now offering an expanded edition of VDI Complete with NVIDIA virtual GPU options and NVIDIA GRID vPC software (sold separately). The NVIDIA Tesla M10 GPU accelerator enables higher performance and a smooth, rich and responsive end-user experience for knowledge workers. Organizations can also select NVIDIA Quadro vDWS with Tesla M60 as a custom option for specialized power users for intense applications like CAD/CAM. NVIDIA GPU capabilities can be added on as a single node or up to a four-node cluster, enabling IT to provide enhanced graphics over time, or deploy to users or departments that require them the most. An NVIDIA GRID software license is required to enable the enhanced graphics for virtual desktops and is available separately.
Dell EMC VDI Complete Solutions, initially announced at Dell EMC World earlier this year, are powered by VMware Horizon software and are based on Dell EMC VxRail Appliances or Dell EMC VMware vSAN™ ReadyNodes™ with the option of Dell Wyse thin clients, Dell OptiPlex PCs or PCaaS as the endpoint, including options with monitors. The solutions provide straightforward, predictable pricing and exceptional total cost of ownership from a single vendor, with the unique advantage of one company to call for support.
Secure, mobile cloud-computing on-the-go
The Latitude 5280 mobile thin client is the latest in the portfolio that combines the manageability, performance and security of Wyse thin clients with the heritage of Dell's award-winning Latitude PCs, all in a mobile form factor. Purpose-built for secure, productive on-the-go performance, the new thin client is ideal for knowledge workers that need a secure digital workspace wherever their jobs take them.
Based on Windows 10 IOT Enterprise, the Latitude 5280 supports a broad range of applications and peripherals, making it easy to accomplish everyday work seamlessly. Other key features include:
- Enterprise-class performance: The Latitude 5280 is based on an Intel 7th generation, Core i5 processor with 8GB DDR4 RAM. It has extended battery life and a 12.5-inch, Full HD display, with the ability to support a 4K monitor via the optional docking station for ease of work in a variety of settings.
- Broad connectivity: Supports a broad mix of peripheral attachments and network connections, including USB 3.1, RJ45, HDMI and VGA ports, and WLAN and Bluetooth connections. This is Dell's first thin client with USB Type-C support, and also includes 3G and 4G cellular integration.
- Software choice: Customers can connect to a variety of virtual desktop brokers including Citrix XenDesktop, Microsoft RDS and VMware Horizon.
Customers can add an additional security layer with Dell Threat Defense advanced threat prevention solution that uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to help proactively prevent malware, including ransomware and zero-day threats from executing on all Windows thin clients. The devices can be managed with Wyse Device Manager (WDM) or Wyse Management Suite (WMS) for on-premises or cloud-based remote configuration and policy management through a single, intuitive console.
