Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) Selects ARES' Security Optimization Services and AVERT Software in Support of its WMD Mission

The mission of DTRA is to safeguard the United States and its allies from Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and high explosives) by providing capabilities to reduce, eliminate, and counter the threat and mitigate its effects.

DTRA selected ARES to develop the AVERT software tool in 1999 and, after a successful initial implementation of AVERT beginning in 2007, requested ARES perform a nuclear enterprise-wide assessment with AVERT.  ARES was chosen due to its ability to provide a standardized, quantitative approach to security risk assessment.  AVERT will provide DTRA enterprise-wide physical security system vulnerability assessment to enable risk-informed decision making, optimize cost, and analyze performance strategies.  To support its complex needs, DTRA will use a full-range of ARES services, AVERT training courses, software licenses, and support for Verification, Validation and Accreditation (VV&A) of the AVERT software.
