Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson to Deliver Keynote Addresses at AFA Air and Space Conference
ARLINGTON, Va., Aug. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Air Force Association (AFA) today announced Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel and Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson will deliver keynote addresses at the 2014 AFA Air and Space Conference September 15-17th at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center at National Harbor, Maryland. Secretary Hagel will deliver Wednesday morning's keynote address followed by Secretary Johnson providing Wednesday afternoon's keynote address on September 17th.
Chuck Hagel, the 24th Secretary of Defense, served in the Vietnam War, earning numerous military decorations and honors, including two Purple Hearts. After serving in number of government roles and co-founding a cell-phone company, Secretary Hagel was elected to represent Nebraska in the United States Senate. Following his Senate career, Secretary Hagel served as Co-Chairman of President Obama's Intelligence Advisory Board and a member of the Secretary of Defense Policy Board. Secretary Hagel was sworn in as Secretary of Defense February 27, 2013, the first enlisted combat veteran to lead the Department of Defense.
Jeh Charles Johnson was sworn in on December 23, 2013 as the fourth Secretary of Homeland Security. Secretary Johnson's career has included extensive service in national security, law enforcement, and private corporate law practice. Secretary Johnson was General Counsel of the Department of the Air Force from 1998 to 2001, and he served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York from 1989 to 1991. Prior to joining DHS, Secretary Johnson served as General Counsel for the Department of Defense, where he was part of the senior management team and led the more than 10,000 military and civilian lawyers across the Department.
