Defense Logistics Agency Launches Facebook Page
FORT BELVOIR, Va., March 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Defense Logistics Agency has launched its official Facebook page at www.facebook.com/dla.mil
The page is available for viewing by anyone but DLA's primary audiences for the page will be customers, suppliers, DOD organizations, DLA employees and other stakeholders.
"Knowing that thousands of people now turn to social media sites for information was a primary factor in adding a Web 2.0 initiative to my 2010 Director's Guidance," DLA Director Navy Vice Adm. Alan Thompson said.
The initiative states that DLA will pursue Web 2.0 technology and additional means to further the agency's top goal of providing quality support to warfighters. DLA's Office of Strategic Communications will manage the page.
The content posted on the page will inform fans of DLA news and milestones, highlight extraordinary employees and provide a calendar of DLA events as well as photographs and videos.
Taking advantage of Web 2.0 technology, DLA officials hope to receive comments and feedback on postings and create an active dialogue.
As the Department of Defense's combat logistics support agency, DLA provides the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, other federal agencies, and joint and allied forces with a variety of logistics, acquisition and technical services. The agency sources and provides nearly 100 percent of the consumable items America's military forces need to operate, from food, fuel and energy, to uniforms, medical supplies, and construction and barrier equipment. DLA also supplies about 84 percent of the military's spare parts. The agency has a history of supporting humanitarian relief operations both in the United States and overseas.
DLA has about 26,000 employees worldwide. DLA's business revenues were nearly $38 billion in Fiscal Year 2009. For more information about DLA, go to www.dla.mil.
