Defeat Diabetes Foundation Teams with CoreMedica Laboratories to Provide Affordable and Reliable A1C Testing for Diabetics
Blood Spot Collection Kit is inexpensive, quick, convenient and painless, with all proceeds from sales benefitting Defeat Diabetes Foundation's education programs
MADEIRA BEACH, Fla., March 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Defeat Diabetes Foundation (DDF) recommends that individuals with diabetes, and those at risk for developing Type 2 diabetes, have a regular A1C test performed by their doctor every 3-4 months, and annually for those at risk. Now, they are teaming up with CoreMedica Laboratories, LLC to provide affordable and reliable self-collected A1C and cholesterol testing for people with diabetes.
The CoreMedica Blood Spot Collection Kit is a quick and convenient way to collect a blood sample for laboratory analysis. The sample can be collected in the privacy of your home, office, or just about anywhere and at any time.
The test offers fast, easy blood sample collection using the safety lancet provided and requires only 4 drops of blood from your fingertip.
- Everything is included in the kit. Prepaid return postage also included.
- Generate a sample onto the blood collection card.
- Collection card is sent to CoreMedica Labs for an accurate and reliable result.
- Results are reported within 48 hours of receipt.
An A1C test measures your blood sugar control over an 8 - 12 week period. It will accurately inform you how well you have managed your diabetes over that time period. The better your glucose control, the lower your A1C value. The higher the value of the A1C, the higher the risk that you may develop problems, such as:
- Eye disease
- Heart disease
- Kidney disease
- Nerve damage
- Stroke
This is especially true if your A1C remains high for a long period of time. The closer your A1C is to normal, the less risk you have for these complications. Normal: 4.0 -6.0. Diabetics: strive for under 7.0.
This A1C test will also accurately identify if you have diabetes years before the symptoms show up. "I have my A1C checked every three months," says Andrew P. Mandell – Mr. Diabetes® and Executive Director of Defeat Diabetes Foundation. "We've carefully examined CoreMedica's laboratory accreditations and found they are fully certified by the College of American Pathologists, the gold standard for laboratory testing. CoreMedica's results are accurate, affordable and convenient. I'm pleased to endorse their product and service," continued Mandell.
"And, for a small additional fee, you can also get your cholesterol and lipids tested. This is important because high cholesterol is a major contributor to poor cardiovascular health – heart attacks and strokes are one of diabetics' greatest complication risks," Mandell concluded.
Defeat Diabetes Foundation recommends testing people with diabetes every 3 - 4 months. The test is available for purchase online at www.myhealthycheck.com. The A1C test costs $15.00 and the Combo A1C, cholesterol and lipids is $25.00. Proceeds will be donated to Defeat Diabetes Foundation to support their education programs.
