Deep Web Technologies Expands Its Explorit Everywhere! Search Service
Researchers gain access to more targeted content than the Discovery Services
SANTE FE, N.M., Sept. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Deep Web Technologies (DWT) expands the functionality of their Explorit Everywhere!™ multi-source search solution with a release focused on improving the findability of the most relevant content for customers with hundreds of information sources that can all be searchable at the same time.
For customers, such as Stanford University or UCC (University College of Cork) with several hundred sources that they wanted to search, DWT worked closely with library staff to organize the databases being searched into 8-10 high-level subject categories and 50-100 sub-categories that enable users, particularly ones with multidisciplinary research needs, to focus their search on the subject categories and sub-categories most appropriate to them.
DWT also worked closely with library staff to organize the results returned into a number of tabs displayed by document types such as multi-media, data sets, government documents and primary research as well as articles, eBooks and news that are meaningful to the users of Explorit Everywhere!.
Customers have noted that a significant difference between Explorit Everywhere! and Discovery Services is that DWT searches the full-text of eBooks and eJournals. Also, while there is usually a lag time between when an eBook is purchased and a catalog record for it is added to the library's catalog, with Explorit Everywhere! the eBook is discoverable as soon as it is added to the publisher's website. Another major feature of Explorit Everywhere! not available in Discovery Services are alerts which users can setup to monitor topics of interest. Also available in Explorit Everywhere! is integration with a link resolver and direct export of search results to a reference manager.
Unlike out-of-the-box Discovery Services where a library is constrained by the content available to the Discovery Service, DWT works with library staff to select the sources each department library wants to make available to their constituents. Such an effort at one academic library led to adding to the Explorit Everywhere! solution a critical mass of sources in Art, History and Music and other under-represented academic disciplines.
DWT plans to continue to expand its use of Explorit Everywhere! enabling users to embed a search widget as well as search results in any web page. Mr. Lederman, CEO of DWT believes, "The internet is about decentralization of information - libraries spend millions on subscription content that is often underutilized because access is not convenient. Explorit Everywhere! is committed to increasing access to the right content wherever you are."
