Dedicated Prosthodontic Researcher Honored by the American College of Prosthodontists
Dr. John A. Sorensen Receives the 2018 Clinician/Researcher Award
CHICAGO, Dec. 18, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The American College of Prosthodontists (ACP) is pleased to announce John A. Sorensen, DMD, PhD, FACP, as the recipient of the 2018 Clinician/Researcher Award, recognizing outstanding contributions to academic dentistry, prosthodontics and the sciences.
"This is the highest honor I have ever received, and I could not be more proud," said Dr. Sorensen. "While I enjoy answering clinical questions through research, the best part of my academic career is mentoring the next generation of prosthodontists in their research and discovery."
Over the course of three decades of scholarly pursuits Dr. Sorensen has recruited nearly $1.1 million in corporate sponsored research, conducted a myriad of laboratory research projects, and has published over 90 academic works. Dr. Sorensen also founded the Pacific Dental Institute in 2003, conducting clinical trials, materials testing, and hosting CE programs in Portland, OR.
Dr. Sorensen currently serves as professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry, director of the Biomimetics Biomaterials Biophotonics Biomechanics & Technology Laboratory (B4T), and director of research for the Graduate Prosthodontics program at the University of Washington. He is a Fellow of the ACP and a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics.
Dr. Sorensen received his Doctor of Dental Medicine from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, before completing his General Practice Residency at St. Francis Hospital in Honolulu. He completed a fixed prosthodontics residency training and received his Certificate in fixed prosthodontics from the Wadsworth VA Hospital in Los Angeles. Dr. Sorensen also holds a PhD in dental materials from the Royal Dental College, Copenhagen University in Denmark.
