Decision Sciences Awarded $2.7 million U.S. Department of Homeland Security Contract for Nuclear and Radiological Imaging
Innovative Solutions for the Department's Domestic Nuclear Detection Office
CHANTILLY, Va., Sept. 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Decision Sciences International Corporation (DSIC), an advanced technology provider of security and detection systems, today announced it has been awarded a research and development contract by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO) for an Advanced Technology Demonstration (ATD) of its Multi-Mode Passive Detection System (MMPDS). Under the contract, DSIC will support government testing of MMPDS intended to evaluate the system's effectiveness and readiness for transition to production. The contract has an estimated value of $2.7 million.
"MMPDS is designed to support DNDO's objective of preventing nuclear terrorism with technology capable of rapidly screening cargo and passenger vehicles for both shielded and unshielded nuclear threats at land and sea ports," said DSIC President and CEO Dr. Stanton D. Sloane. "This is a very important opportunity for us to work with DHS through DNDO in support of its significant mission."
Under the contract, DHS' DNDO will evaluate Decision Sciences' MMPDS, a completely passive scanning technology that uses naturally occurring cosmic ray muons to safely and securely detect and locate potential threats hidden in cargo, vehicles and other conveyances.
