Organized by Cincinnati Habitat for Humanity and sponsored by Proctor & Gamble, the project is focused on transforming two vacant and historic houses in Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine neighborhood into affordable, energy-efficient homes for low-income families. Deceuninck and Tri-State are supplying energy-efficient vinyl window systems to be incorporated into the reconstruction of both homes.
At 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, representatives from both companies will conduct a window walk from Tri-State's manufacturing facility to Elm Street and deliver the windows to the homes, thereby replacing traditional shipping and reducing the project's overall carbon footprint.
The renovations are receiving recognition from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), which has named the effort its Legacy Project for the 2011 "Greening the Heartland" Conference, being held June 22 to 24 in Cincinnati.
"At Deceuninck North America, sustainability is part of our covenant with our customers and with the environment. We are always seeking ways to empower both builders and consumers to construct a more sustainable home," said Filip Geeraert, CEO of Deceuninck North America. "Our eco-friendly window systems are serving as an important component to this reconstruction project, and we are proud to team up with Tri-State Windows so that Habitat for Humanity can turn what was an empty structure into an energy-efficient home for a family in need."
"The homes on Elm Street are using Tri-State's Earthwise Equator windows, which are Energy Star-approved and have earned the Good Housekeeping Seal. They provide excellent resistance to thermal conductivity and are maintenance free. They will not corrode, pit, or rot, and they will never require painting," said Kathy Caldon, president of Tri-State Wholesale Building Supplies. "At Tri-State, we maintain a solid reputation for assisting and supplying historically approved products to efforts such as these, and we are proud that the Earthwise vinyl windows were the perfect fit for this Habitat project."
