Debbie's Dream Foundation: Curing Stomach Cancer Raises More Than $80,000 at the 3rd Annual Dream BIG Luncheon
A major milestone is celebrated as hundreds come together in a quest to turn one cancer patient's dream into a reality.
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Oct. 5, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Debbie's Dream Foundation: Curing Stomach Cancer (DDF), a non-profit organization that raises awareness and funds for stomach cancer, hosted its 3rd Annual Dream BIG Luncheon on Monday, September 25, 2017 at the Bonaventure Resort & Spa in Weston, Florida. With 318 registered guests, the event raised over $80,000 to fund research and benefit stomach cancer patients around the world. Since 2013, DDF has allocated $700,000 in grant funding.
The luncheon featured a silent auction and three course lunch in honor of DDF President and Founder and current stomach cancer patient Debbie Zelman's 50th birthday. Auction items included priceless experiences, jewelry, fine dining, vacations, and travel. Local 10 News WPLG reporter Kristi Krueger was Master of Ceremonies, and Linda Gendler and Sabrina Kurzman were the Co-Chairs for the third year in a row.
"When I was diagnosed 9 ½ years ago, I didn't think I would see my 50th birthday," said Zelman. "It was truly humbling to celebrate with so many people who care about finding a cure as much as I do. I have made it my personal mission to bring awareness to this growing disease and its lack of adequate funding so other families won't have to go through what mine did."
During the luncheon, Zelman was presented with proclamations declaring September 25th "Debbie Zelman Day" from the cities of Davie, Plantation, Weston, and Broward County for her hard work; the difference she has made for stomach cancer patients worldwide; and for reaching this life milestone.
