Debbie's Dream Foundation: Curing Stomach Cancer Names Ohio Chapter Leaders Paul and Angela Bosela Volunteer of the Year Award Recipients
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., March 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Debbie's Dream Foundation: Curing Stomach Cancer (DDF) presented its 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award to Ohio chapter founders and leaders Paul and Angela Bosela. The award recognizes outstanding individuals for achievements in advocacy, volunteerism, chapter development, patient support, and other activities in support of the mission of DDF. It was presented during the 6th Annual DDF Capitol Hill Stomach Cancer Advocacy Day on February 27, 2018 in Washington, D.C.
Angela Bosela is a stomach cancer survivor who was diagnosed with an aggressive, fast-growing stomach cancer at the age of 55. After a 70% gastrectomy (stomach removal) and four cycles of chemotherapy and radiation treatments, she has been cancer free for more than ten years. Following her recovery, she has become an accomplished runner, completing numerous half marathons, 10k's, and 5k's, including winning the Senior Masters at the 2012 Youngstown Peace Race. Her husband Paul is a professor emeritus and former chairman of the Department of Civil Engineering at Cleveland State University and former Chairman of the Executive Committee of the American Society of Civil Engineers Technical Council on Forensic Engineering. He was Angela's primary caregiver during her recovery. With their daughter, Sheila Gambaccini, they founded the Ohio Chapter of DDF.
For the past few years they have hosted Stomach Cancer Awareness Nights at Cleveland Cavaliers and Monsters hockey games. They have also organized DDF teams in different runs and races and have attended every DDF Advocacy Day in Washington DC. In an effort to raise awareness, they annually have November declared Curing Stomach Cancer Month in Ohio.
"We truly appreciate Paul and Angela's passion and dedication toward helping us achieve our mission and goals as DDF chapter leaders and PREP mentors," said Andrea Eidelman, DDF Executive Director. "I am honored to have presented them with this award."
Past DDF Volunteer of the Year recipients include; 2017 – Melani Vincelli, New Jersey South Chapter Leader & PREP Mentor and 2016 – Christy & Tony Leonard, North Carolina East Chapter Leaders.

About Debbie's Dream Foundation: Curing Stomach Cancer
Debbie's Dream Foundation: Curing Stomach Cancer (DDF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness about gastric cancer, advancing funding for research, and providing education and support internationally to patients, families, and caregivers. Debbie's Dream Foundation seeks as its ultimate goal to make the cure for stomach cancer a reality.
DDF was founded in 2009 by Debbie Zelman after she was diagnosed with stage IV incurable gastric cancer in 2008 and given only weeks to live. Debbie is considered a pioneer by many for bringing awareness to the plight of stomach cancer patients worldwide and the lack of federal funding for stomach cancer research. She did all of this while receiving hundreds of rounds of chemo in addition to daily oral treatments. Debbie passed away on December 23, 2017 at the age of 50, almost a decade later. As a result of her leadership, DDF now has a Scientific and Medical Advisory Board of world-renowned doctors in addition to chapters throughout the United States and in Canada and Germany. DDF strives to continue Debbie's mission to make her dream of finding a cure for stomach cancer come true. To learn more about DDF, please visit us at www.DebbiesDream.org.
