This year, participants in the DDF Dream Team will be running in honor of or in memory of cancer patients. Anyone can donate to the DDF Dream Team runners if they want their loved ones' names on the front or back of the DDF running shirts.
"We are looking forward to another successful year collaborating with the Miami Marathon," said Debbie Zelman, President and Founder of Debbie's Dream Foundation. "The DDF Dream Team has grown tremendously over the past few years and I, along with many other volunteers, will be there to support our participants who are helping to advance our cause and honor cancer patients."
As members of the DDF Dream Team, participants will receive several complimentary benefits including a DDF race shirt, a training program with tips, a race packet pick up if requested, and a Kick-Off Party happy hour. The Dream Team Miami Marathon Kick-Off Party will take place on Friday, January 31, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bokampers Sports Bar & Grill in Plantation. At the Marathon, members will also get food, beverages, goodies and massages at the DDF Friends & Family Tent at the race finish line.
Once a runner or walker has joined the DDF Dream Team, members can start fundraising for the organization. There is a $100 fundraising requirement, but DDF encourages each member to set a minimum goal of $250. If a member raises $1,000, DDF will reimburse their full registration fee.
Debbie Zelman founded the organization in 2009 after being diagnosed with stage IV incurable stomach cancer. Debbie's Dream Foundation seeks as its ultimate goal to bring attention and action to this important cause. The organization encourages people to spread the word about early detection and screening because if a patient is diagnosed at an early stage, the chances of being cured dramatically increase.
To join the DDF Dream Team, register at http://www.active.com/donate/2014DreamTeam and select "Debbie's Dream" under Groups/Affiliations on the registration form. Also, if you know anyone who has already registered for the race, but would like to switch to the DDF Dream Team, please email his or her name and date of birth to Jenna Reed at [email protected] or call (954) 475-1200.
