CyberPatriot, established by the Air Force Association, is the nation's largest and fastest-growing high school cyber defense competition. It was created to inspire high school students to consider careers in cybersecurity or other technology and mathematic disciplines critical to our nation's future. The deadline to participate in this premier competition is now less than 30 days away.
CyberPatriot provides students hands-on learning while competing virtually against their peers. It's also a great opportunity for students to learn more about computer network defense with sponsoring companies providing support and technical expertise.
But more importantly, it will be fun!
CyberPatriot calls attention to one of the nation’s most critical needs by exciting, educating and motivating the talent who will become our country’s next generation of cyber leaders. Now in its third year, CyberPatriot has more than 330 schools in 47 states already organizing teams.
How the competition works:
The competition is open to all high schools or approved home school programs in its Open Division, and to Junior ROTC units and Civil Air Patrol squadrons in the All-Service Division.
Teams of five, with an approved coach (generally a teacher), learn to defend computer networks from real-life computer threat scenarios. In the preliminaries, hundreds of teams compete online, using software and programs provided by CyberPatriot to competitively solve vulnerabilities in their network. The top teams then compete again in a series of online rounds to determine the finalists for an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, DC and the Championship Round at the Gaylord National Convention Center in April 2011.
The only cost to teams is a $350 entry fee which provides access to the software, participant materials and travel expenses for teams qualifying for the in-person competitions. (The entry fee is waived for CAP/JROTC teams whose headquarters have agreed to fund travel.)

The AFA is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization promoting public understanding of aerospace power and the pivotal role it plays in the security of the nation. AFA has over 200 chapters nationally and internationally representing 120,000 members.
