DDB's Minerva Garcia Wins AAF Diversity Achievement Award for Diversity Efforts
NEW YORK, Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- DDB announced today that DDB New York Human Resource Manager Minerva Garcia has been awarded the Diversity Achievement Award for Educator by the American Advertising Federation (AAF). The yearly Diversity Achievement and Mosaic Awards presentation honors companies and individuals that have demonstrated innovative efforts in multicultural marketing and advertising. The Educator category is designed to recognize an individual who has increased awareness of the aspirations, obstacles and performance of minority groups among the general population.
"The existence of the Diversity Achievement Educator Award is a testament to the AAF's commitment to diversity and education," said Garcia. "When I consider the many dedicated educators presently in the advertising industry, I'm truly honored to be the recipient of this award. I'm passionate about education and sincerely appreciate the many people who have made this possible. To be recognized by my peers for my educational contributions and for having an impact on students, colleagues and the discipline itself is extremely rewarding."
Garcia has been with DDB since 1998 and was named Director of Diversity for DDB New York in 2009. As Director of Diversity, Garcia constantly engages in proactive talent scouting for top multicultural talent, creates innovative diversity programs, and serves as a resource for employees, managers and clients to ensure understanding of diversity efforts and goals.
"Minerva is truly deserving of this award and I'm extremely proud of her and her achievements on behalf of DDB," said Peter Hempel, President & CEO of DDB New York. "She has been pivotal in enlightening so many to the rewards of diversity and succeeded in bringing fresh voices to find significant roles in our vibrant industry. For years, Minerva has helped champion diversity in every way, and used education to enrich DDB's culture of inclusion, make an impact in our industry, and expand her own academic credentials."
The AAF's District Two Diversity Achievement Awards and Mosaic Awards will be presented at a luncheon on September 29, 2010, at the New York Athletic Club.
