DDB New York Wins Big for New York Lottery at 2012 World Lottery Summit
Agency Takes Home First-Ever Joint WLA/NASPL Best of the Best Advertising Award for Powerball® "Yeah, that kind of rich™" Campaign and Nabs Six NASPL Batchy Awards
NEW YORK, Sept. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- DDB New York announced today that its work for the New York Lottery has been awarded the first-ever Best of the Best award by the World Lottery Association (WLA) and the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL). The award, presented for the "Music," "Driveway" and "Garage" TV commercials, all part of the larger Powerball "Yeah, that kind of rich" campaign, honors the best of all entries from around the world for the WLA and NASPL competitions combined. It was presented during a special ceremony at the closing dinner of the 2012 World Lottery Summit (WLS) in Montreal, Canada, on Wednesday, September 12.
In addition, NASPL named the New York Lottery the winner of six prestigious Batchy Awards across five categories. DDB New York won for the "Frank's Tunnel" and "Aquarium" ads in the Outdoor category, "Co-workers" in the Radio category, and "Music" in the TV category. The "Music," "Driveway," and "Garage" TV spots were recipients of top honors in the Coordinated TV category, as well as the Best of the Batch Award, NASPL's top honor.
"It's an honor to receive this prestigious Best of the Best accolade from lottery professionals at NASPL and WLA," said Matt Eastwood, Chief Creative Officer, DDB New York. "We sought to capture the emotion of achievable over-the-top luxury in a fun way, while informing consumers about the game updates that began January 15, 2012, which created the opportunity for exponentially higher winnings as a result of consumers paying $2 rather than $1 for a ticket."
The winning work is part of the celebrated "Yeah, that kind of rich™" campaign that portrays the lavish lifestyles possible for Powerball® winners who reap the benefits of the larger jackpot, such as a live on-command performance by Cindy Lauper in one's living room, a comically long driveway—long enough to necessitate driving to retrieve the morning newspaper—or an expansive home garage chock-full of high-end vehicles.
WLA is the global organization dedicated to advancing the interests of state-authorized lotteries, and NASPL is the multinational association representing 52 lotteries in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The WLS 2012 brings two separate conventions, the 2012 WLA Convention and Trade Show and the NASPL 2012 Conference and Trade Show, together under one roof. By joining forces, the WLA and NASPL aim to deliver a world lottery summit of unparalleled depth and quality to the members and contributors of both associations.
About New York Lottery
The New York Lottery continues to be North America's largest and most profitable lottery, contributing over $3 billion in fiscal year 2010-2011 to help support education in New York State. The Lottery's aid represents over 15 percent of total state education funding to local school districts. Lottery revenue is distributed to local school districts by the same statutory formula used to distribute other state aid to education. It takes into account both a school district's size and its income level; larger, lower-income school districts receive proportionately larger shares of Lottery school funding.
