HARRISBURG, Pa., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Bowhunters will again be welcome in parts of Neshaminy State Park, Bucks County, when archery deer season opens in southeastern Pennsylvania on Saturday, Sept. 18, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources said today.
To participate, licensed hunters first must register at the Neshaminy State Park Office beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7. There will be 100 permits issued on a first-come, first-served basis.
"Hunting will be allowed during the regular archery season for deer, as established by the Pennsylvania Game Commission, to help reduce the park's deer population and keep it in balance with the unique ecosystem of the park," said Neshaminy State Park Manager Josh Swartley. "The current deer population exceeds the park's carrying capacity and is adversely impacting woodland regeneration."
Archers must hold a valid Pennsylvania hunting license and an archery license. Hunters may target antlered deer as well as antlerless if the archers possess valid Bucks County (5D Wildlife Management Unit) antlerless licenses.
The park will remain open to the general public during the hunt. Hunting will not be permitted in safety zones and certain designated areas within the park. A map showing these areas is available at the park office.
Portable tree stands will be permitted, but must comply with Game Commission regulations governing their use on public land. Archers may harvest no animals other than deer.
