Dayton Physicians Network and Zangmeister Center Join RainTree Oncology Services Network
SAN DIEGO, Feb. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- RainTree Oncology Services today announced that Dayton Physicians Network and The Zangmeister Center, based in Columbus, Ohio, leaders in technically advanced, high quality community-based medical and cancer care, have joined the RainTree Oncology membership to obtain access to advanced oral oncologic drug acquisition and management services. With these additions, RainTree Oncology's physician membership has expanded to 491 physicians from leading community oncology practices.
"With the recent and upcoming advances in oral chemotherapy, we are excited to partner with RainTree and other community oncology practices around the country to improve the care we provide to the patients we serve," said Charles Bane, M.D. president of Dayton Physicians Network.
"The Zangmeister Center has been a leader in providing oral oncology medications to patients for over five years," said Glenn Balasky, executive director of The Zangmeister Center. "The partnership with RainTree Oncology Services will provide our pharmacy team and most importantly, our patients, with increased access to these oral oncology medications and allow us to be more effective in managing this important aspect of their cancer care."
RainTree Oncology aims to improve efficiencies within community oncology practices in several ways. 1) by facilitating the formation of a community oncology network allied with RainTree Oncology through which members can obtain oral oncology pharmaceuticals at favorable contracted prices; 2) by helping with the implementation of on-site pharmacies for those practices that do not have one, providing added convenience for patients and an important source of revenue for physicians; and 3) by providing practice pharmacists with unique automated tools that will allow them to more easily track prescribing and fulfillment of oral oncology medications in practices, in order to improve patient adherence to prescribed therapeutics.
"Practice leaders throughout the country have expressed enthusiasm for our member programs, which place an emphasis on the needs of community oncologists and their patients," said Jeffrey Patton, M.D., RainTree Oncology chief medical officer. "We look forward to working with more and more community oncologists to implement oral oncology drug strategies that can support the health of patients and practices."
"The on-site pharmacy enables our practice to benefit from expanded pharmacy services and access to patient assistance programs targeted to a patient's diagnosis, treatment and recovery," said Dr. William Harwin, a member of the RainTree Oncology advisory board and president and managing partner of Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute, the nation's largest privately-owned cancer and hematology practice. "Patients enjoy the convenience of in-office pharmacy services, and the practice derives another income source to support our patient services."
