The series is composed of three concerts, which feature the music popularized by seminal rock 'n roll groups of the 1960s and 1970s: the Beatles, the Eagles, and Led Zeppelin. Modern-day rock ensembles will perform alongside the DPO in the acoustically acclaimed Mead Theatre at the Benjamin & Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center. The blend of rock classics with a full orchestral sound is taking hold in concert halls around the country.
The concerts in the 2010-2011 FORGE Rockin' Orchestra Series are:
- Classical Mystery Tour: Music the Beatles – Saturday, November 20, 2010, 8 p.m.
- One of These Nights: Music of The Eagles – Saturday, January 22, 2011, 8 p.m.
- The Symphony Rocks: Music of Led Zeppelin – Saturday, April 2, 2011, 8 p.m.
David Bukvic, DPO Marketing Director, reports, "At press time, the November 20th performance is nearly sold out and subscription sales alone (not counting single tickets) for the new initiative have reached the $100,000 mark, a significant success for a new series." Visiting guest artists for the series are Classical Mystery Tour for the Beatles performance, Jeans 'n Classics for the Eagles performance and Windborne Music for the Led Zeppelin. Mr. Bukvic adds, "We welcome FORGE on board the DPO sponsor lineup and applaud their foresight in getting behind an innovative series like this."
Neal Gittleman, DPO Music Director, an avid rock fan himself, will take the baton for the series kickoff performance on November 20, 2010.
