DENVER, April 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- DaVita Inc. (NYSE: DVA), a leading independent medical group and a leading provider of kidney care services in the United States, is organizing various international events in honor of Community Service Month.

DaVita regularly organizes nonprofit support and community service events. In 2016, 90 percent of all eligible clinical centers participated in the annual "DaVita Way of Giving" campaign, directing donations of more than $2.2 million to nonprofits across the U.S. In addition, DaVita recently launched a formal electronic waste program, diverting more than 113,000 pounds of electronic waste from landfills in 2016 alone.

DaVita is a community first and a company second year-round, but Community Service Month is especially packed with volunteer events allowing employees, or teammates, to give back to their local communities. Teammates around the globe organize and participate in local events helping to make a positive impact.

Many of the service events will take place on April 22 in honor of Earth Day, when teammates will organize in cities across the globe to clean up rivers, parks and roads. In 2016, more than 2,600 DaVita teammates, families and friends in five different countries celebrated Earth Day with 140 environmental service projects. This year, DaVita anticipates teammates from ten countries in which it operates will participate in Earth Day service events.
